DRAWING ALL THINGS TO GOD
Jesus’ birth welcomed something greater into human form. Through the recorded accounts of his life, Jesus’ teachings pointed to a connected way of living in relationship to God, one another, our meals, our positions and possessions, and to the Earth. To people who find themselves detached from such things, who had exhausted themselves and their means, who had forgotten they were created out of the same vibratory frequency (voice) that birthed all things out of no-thing (the Eternal), Jesus came with a message:
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.
During this film and scripture series, we will hear from different Christian thinkers sharing how following Jesus shapes their life. As we hear their perspectives, we will be encouraged to reflect on our own relationship with Christ.
HOSPITALITY AND THE STRANGER
In ancient cultures, the stranger was someone in whom hospitality was extended. To welcome the stranger was to welcome the company of the divine. This series of videos is about those we might consider other, stranger, foreigner, and alien. These are the people often on the margins of society, and treated as such. They might be the migrant, those who are of different religious or cultural backgrounds, those who live in neighborhoods of different social economic classes, those who simply look, act, and behave differently.
We are naturally drawn to what is like us. But if this is the case, then how can we know something new? How can we come to recognize the presence of an infinite God, if all we are seeking is to confirm what we already know about God? It might be that salvation does not lie in the familiar, but that which comes to us as different, as the other and the stranger.
In this video and scripture series, we will explore different understandings of who the strangers are in our midst and how we can welcome one another as God has welcomed all of us.
THE WAY OF LIFE
The study Way of Life will help groups approach and engage the question, “How can we make Christianity more Christian?” This series is a mix of scripture, prayer, reading, and video to help frame conversations based on Brian McClaren’s book, The Great Spiritual Migration.
We will be encouraged to stop worrying, waiting, and indulging in nostalgia, and instead, to embrace the powerful new understandings that are reshaping the church. As we practice and ancient faith, we celebrate an eternal God, who continues to transform us and renew our understanding of how God is present in the world.
This study promises to be a thoughtful reflection for all Christians.
